It is our pleasure to invite you to the 11th European Conference on Health Promotion organised by the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE) in collaboration with the University of Girona, Dipsalut (Public Health Body of the Diputació de Girona), the Girona City Council and the Catalan Public Health Agency. The conference will bring together researchers, practitioners and policy makers in the field of health promotion from Europe and from around the world to network, exchange experiences and advance the theory, research and practice of health promotion.
To ensure maximum participation, due to the pandemic crisis and its long-term implications, the conference will be held in an online format.
The conference will be organized around the theme of Transformative action in a changing Europe. This overall theme will be developed in three plenary sessions with high level keynotes or roundtable discussions. The first, Recognizing Health Promotion's contribution in a changing Europe will reflect on what health promotion as a transdisciplinary field of professional practice has contributed to shaping public health in a changing Europe. The second keynote session, Reinforcing Health Promotion's capacity to address change in Europe will focus on the professional competencies and organisational capacities that are required for health promotion to live up to the challenge of shaping public health in Europe. The third session, Rethinking Health Promotion to better address change in Europe, will take a critical look at the points where health promotion needs to be strengthened so as to cope with the challenges of societal and health changes in Europe.
This event will celebrate IUHPE’s leadership role in shaping global health promotion over the last 70 years and progressing the development of health promotion in collaboration with our global network of members and partners. Through a series of panel discussions and multimedia presentations, critical insights will be exchanged on the evolution and future development of health promotion as a key transformative strategy for advancing health, wellbeing, and equity.
Welcome! Following five successful International Research Seminars on Salutogenesis (Helsinki 2008 & 2009, Geneva 2010, Tröllhattan 2011 & 2012), the Center of Salutogenesis of the University of Zurich, the Society for Theory and Research on Salutogenesis (STARS), and the IUHPE Global Working Group on Salutogenesis are pleased to invite you to participate in the Sixth International Conference on Salutogenesis, which will be held in an online format with virtual attendance. From now on, we refer to the events as Conferences rather than Seminars.
Salutogenesis is the concept of the origin of health rather than disease. Developed by Aaron Antonovsky (1979, 1987), the concept focuses on strengthening individual and social resources that protect and actively promote health. In essence, Salutogenesis is concerned with creating coherent living environments, strengthening socio-ecological health resources as well as strengthening the sense of coherence of individuals and groups.
Four areas of advancement: To strengthen the knowledge-base of salutogenesis, the IUHPE Global Working Group on Salutogenesis produced the Handbook of Salutogenesis. During the creation of the Handbook and their regular meetings, the working group identified four key conceptual issues to be advanced – for details see the position paper in the Journal Health Promotion International:
